The Pericardium organ system has the role of Minister who protects the Heart, the Emperor, and therefore acts to insulate and protect the order of the Heart energy. It assists in maintaining the balance of the vascular system. The Pericardium is said to be the origin of joy and sadness.
Considered the Ambassador, the Triple Warmer is associated with three regions of the body; the chest, abdomen and pelvis. It regulates the supply of blood and other fluids throughout those regions as well as producing and circulating two forms of Qi; nourishing Qi and protective Qi.
Beginning just outside your left and right nipples is your Pericardium meridian. It continues up and around the front of the armpit, down the inner (yin) aspect of the arm to the tip of the index finger. Crossing to the ring fingers it joins and begins the Triple Heater meridian. From here this meridian passes over the hands, up the outside lower and upper arms (yang) to the back of the shoulders, across the shoulder blades, up the sides of your neck, to the ear lobes, over cheeks to the outer edge of your eyebrows.
The mental and emotional state influenced by these two systems is similar to the Heart. Our goal for creating balance among Pericardium and Triple Heater is so we may be able to create feelings of joy and pleasure throughout life.
