Known as the Prime Minister, the Lung system organizes, executes and facilitates the function of the immune system by regulating the rhythm of breathing. There is an intimate relationship between breath and pulse (Heart), energy and blood, when we engage in the Eastern exercises like yoga or qi gong. Participation in mindful breathing exercises, we experience first hand the strength and stability of the Lung system.
Directly assisting the Prime Minister is the Minister of Transportation, the Large Intestine organ system. Digested foods depend on the transformative and efficient function of the Large Intestine system to transport and evacuate all solid waste from the body.
Just below the shoulders, at the outer edge of the upper chest, our Lung meridian begins. It travels down the front aspect of the arm, through the elbow crease, forearm, over the wrist, across the thumb muscle to the corner of the thumbnail.
From the outside of the index finger, the Large Intestine meridian begins and runs along the edge of the finger, along the bony margin of the outer arm to the elbow. It travels up between the triceps and biceps, over the shoulders, neck and to the edge of the nostrils.
Grief is the central emotion when these systems are out of balance. Other negative attributes include shame, sorrow and disappointment. When harmony prevails over these two systems one will be filled with high self-esteem, dignity and integrity.
